After an emergency

Considerations by the responders

After the response to an emergency, a working group will meet to consider the impact of the emergency on the community. They will put in place appropriate support in consultation with the affected community. They will consider:

  • impact assessment
  • community involvement
  • community recovery
  • safety of structures
  • welfare support
  • accomodation – temporary vs long-term options
  • financial implications
  • vulnerable people
  • time scales
  • memorials and anniversaries
  • health and safety implications, for example flood water residue

Humanitarian assistance

Following a major emergency, the provision of humanitarian assistance is part of the recovery process. See humanitarian assistance for further information.

Debrief

It is important that staff who responded to an emergency are included in the debrief process. To identify the things that went well, the things that didn’t quite go so well and what coudl be done differently.
